Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone

"Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone" is inspired by two of my favorite non-fiction authors, Carl Sagan and James Randi. It's sometimes said that the reason that pseudo-science is so popular is because it comes across sounding more exciting than real science. Sagan's Cosmos challenged that idea by showing that valid scientific facts can be incredibly cool. Then there's Randi, whose completely different approach of exposing fake psychics is entertaining as hell.

Note that I'm not suggesting any kind of endorsement from them--I've never met Randi or the late-Dr. Sagan, so I have no idea what their opinions on this would be--I just enjoyed their writings and that inspired a song. And I, like many others, find it sad when great science is overshadowed by the tabloid culture. That's what the song is about.

The odd song title is a reference to two segments of the Cosmos series, segments that I found fascinating. If you haven't seen Cosmos, I would highly recommend finding it and watching it. The guy in the turtleneck is brilliant.

The album Sparse was recorded in several small studios around L.A. in 1999. Although it's not part of my current release, Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone has been getting played on internet radio stations and garnering a good amount of 'thumbs ups.' So we decided to devote a page of my site to the song."

Lyrics for: Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone

They say aliens built the pyramids
They say there's a continent buried deep down under the sea
Invisible Beings will slip through your walls and grab you in your sleep and spirit you away
And have you seen the Virgin in the smoke of a volcano?

Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone will crumble to dust while the tabloids sell millions
Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone, we long to have something else calling

They say a man can bend a spoon with his will
They say she could read your thoughts at 50 paces
There is a luminous glow surrounding our bodies changing colors with our moods it pulses and it shifts
And have you seen the Virgin in the streaks of a dirty window?

Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone will crumble to dust while the tabloids sell millions
Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone, we long to have something else calling

They say crystals focus energies
They say a gifted person can even raise the dead
You can lift out of your body from a deep enough trance and travel through the universe gaining knowledge as you fly
And have you seen the Virgin in the charred marks of a tortilla?

Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone will crumble to dust while the tabloids sell millions
Tesseracts and the Rosetta Stone, I can't believe there's something else calling...
...Calling me home.

But where is home?

I know of no home.

If you like that song, here's a bonus (also off the album Sparse) that folks seem to like.
